A new week and it's a lovely sunny day out there, I wish I was sat out there writing :-) Our first guest author interview of the week is with Mercy Cortez.
Please introduce yourself, who are you and what do you do?
I write under the pen name Mercy Cortez, I am 20 and i have been reading books for years, I started writing on Wattpad about a year ago and i really enjoyed all the feedback i received and so I decided to try my hand at publishing them.
What first inspired you to start writing?
Experiences in my life, I have had relationships shatter and bruise and I felt I could write that, and it was almost a therapy to me.
Do you write in the same genre that you read?
I do. However i do like some fantasy stuff, like TrueBlood, Twilight and The Host but I could never have the patience to write thise books, I admire people who can.
My main influence is Tiffany Reisz, her work is brilliant, so I try to mix Tiffany, Hilary Boyd and Stephenie Meyer into my books.
What is your favourite song lyric?
Gosh! I have a passion for music and I have written lyrics in the past. I would say Lana Del Rey from God and Monsters -
"In the land of gods and monsters, I was an angel,
Living in the garden of evil."
I feel like we are all like that sometimes.
What do you enjoy most about writing?
The characters, developing them, finding out new elements to them, feeling them out and finding a story you didn't expect.
And the least?
The trouble I have is that i have so many ideas and I want to write a million books at once and so I have to stop myself!
What advice would you give new and aspiring authors?
I would say, hi im one of you! To be honest you just need a story, a good, clear story. But after that, you need promotion. I cant advise as im new too but i would say writing the book is the easy part, getting people to read it is harder.
What are you working on at the moment?
The final part to my book Never Ever After, I made it in two parts, and if I get enough good feedback on this one I will release the next part, it is only a two part ebook, and I just need more time to write.
Tell us about your latest work and how we can find out more.
Never Ever After is about a woman called Saskia she has made bad decisions; they seem to follow her. She needs to put the past behind her and move on but it seems something in the past wont let her.
William has always been down on his luck, he rarely trusts anyone because from experience it isnt worth it. He knows he has issues, issues from the people who let him down his whole life, and what happens when these two characters meet. Lots of twists and turns.

By day I'm a video game consultant, and I also volunteer at the German Shepherd Dog Welfare Fund - the charity that rescued the dog I adopted last year. I've also recently started compiling a website covering the history of the village I live, although I'm hoping to draw in some help for that project! Here is scratchpad when I need it, and a place for my personal projects. It's also an archive from back when this was was my writing blog.
