Film Review - World War Z

I enjoyed reading the book this is based on a while back and was excited to learn a movie was being made of it, unfortunately this isn't a good film of the book, but it is a decent zombie film. The story follows a familiar pattern for this type of film, there's an outbreak that spreads rapidly and humanity is turned into zombies.

What this film does better than most is drive home the possible worldwide scenario for this story. It showcases some incredible set pieces on a large scale for a zombie outbreak. In fact this is the film's strongest point, some of those scenes are simply fantastic to watch.

The pacing of the film is pretty good, it gets going quickly and keeps the pace up throughout, although there's a minor stutter near the end. The story might not be anything that hasn't been seen before, but the telling of it is slick.

Brad Pitt does a good job as the lead, it's far from his greatest role but he works well as the focus of the film. The book is more a collection of tales from around the world telling the history of the outbreak, the film follows a similar globe trotting pattern, but in a more singular fashion, just following the single lead character.

Overall this is a fun zombie film, it's sense of scale and high production values sets it up a strong member of a crowded genre, but is well worth a watch.

United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself.

World War Z is available from Amazon (and is a decent zombie movie)
