Guest Authors revisited - Uzuri Wilkerson

I first interviewed Uzuri Wilkerson back in March (you can read that original interview here), I recently caught up with her to see what's she's been up to since then.

If you'd like a chance to win one of two e-book copies of her latest book 'Sour' then simply leave a comment below and I'll pick a random winner on November 1st!

What has changed in your life since we last spoke?
I had a very nice release party for my first novel, Sweet, where my family and friends helped me celebrate and I was able to show my appreciation of their support. My second novel, Sour, was released in July. I’ve been fortunate to have been featured in a newspaper article and on a local television show, as well as a few blogs.

Have you learnt any new wisdom?
I knew that it would be a lot of work but I’ve learned to be persistent. It’s how you get your book on shelves and into people’s hands. You never know if that person walking past your table will be interested in your book, in your story, or in helping a local artist. You don’t want any of those opportunities to pass you by so you have to speak up.

Have you become a better writer? If so, how?
I think so. I’ve focused on structure of sentences and of the story as a whole. I pay attention to my favorite authors to figure out why I love their work so much. You can’t really grow or become successful until you see what works and what doesn’t.

What are you working on at the moment?
I’ve been working on a few short stories I intend to submit to different literary magazines and blogs. It’s given me a slight respite from the series, which I think will be beneficial for when I am ready to finish it. Right now, I have an ending in mind so I am working on getting there. The third book is complete but it needs some fleshing out. I’m hoping fresh eyes will help.

Tell us about your latest release and how we can find out more.
The second volume of my Bitten series is called Sour. It is the continuation of Celia and Victor’s relationship and the ups and downs they are still experiencing. With the introduction of sharing blood, Celia’s abilities are trying to manifest themselves while Victor works to harvest them. In the meantime, Celia deals with vampires chasing her, a pushy coworker, her evasive cousin, and a newborn vampire who may or may not be trying to come between her and Victor. You can find Sweet and Sour on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, as well as at Harvest Co-op, Brookline Booksmith, and Frugal Bookstore. My website is www.uzurimwilkerson.com.
