Book Impressions - Maureen goes to Venice by Jonathan Hill

Maureen is a great character. I first met her in 'A Letter for Maureen' (see my review here: http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/book-impressions-letter-for-maureen.html), that was a more sentimental story than this one. Maureen is off on holiday and as you may have guessed she has gone to Venice.

It's an amusing book and I enjoyed the flow as the story unfurled. I think it lacked some of the depth that made 'A Letter from Maureen' stand out for me. In some ways this felt a little rushed, especially the end.

That being said, it is a cracking read and it's always nice to see how a character develops. The setting is well written and I did feel as if I had visited Venice reading the story, which is impressive. The author also has a real talent for the human comedy and this is most definetly a fun read.

If Maureen were real, I would advise you to avoid her like the plague. She somehow attracts disaster and farce in equal measure wherever she goes.

As she is fictional though, it should be safe enough for you to encounter her from behind your Kindle.
Maureen had a disastrous trip to a modern art exhibition in ‘ECLECTIC: Ten Very Different Tales’. Well, now she’s back in her own feature-length adventure!

The book will give you plenty of laughs and a taste of Italy, so join hapless Maureen on her Venetian break and just be glad you’re not there with her!

A comic short story of ~13,500 words.
