I'm having one of those days, but never mind, let's enjoy reading a guest author interview with Dean MacAllister to take my mind off it :-)
Please introduce yourself, who are you and what do you do?
My name is Dean MacAllister and I am a fresh, new author. I am a world traveller, a wreck diver, amateur photographer, professional husband and a friendly drunk.
What first inspired you to start writing?
On my many travels I had innumerable experiences in countless places. I got to bursting point with all my stories, but I didn't want to write a book about myself like many people encouraged me to do...I was more interested in fiction, as it's what I prefer to read.
Eventually, when I had enough ideas I tried to squeeze them all into one book; 'The Misadventures of a Reluctant Traveller'. And...I think it worked.
Why do you enjoy getting lost?
I love the isolation. Deserts, jungles, arctic and antarctic tundra, deep ocean and space, isolation has always appealed to me. I love being intimidated by my surroundings.
What is the most memorable place you have visited?
Wayyy too hard a question. Two of my favourite moments, though, were:
1/Diving at night time in Vanuatu while lightning played over head.
2/ Flying into Mexico with lightning playing underneath me as the sun set.
And who is the most interesting person you have met on your travels?
That's a hard one too. Ever heard of the Darean gap? It's dense jungle occupied by guerrillas between Panama and Colombia. It's extremely dangerous there, many people have been kidnapped and taken there and many others who have ventured in have dissappeared. I met a young german guy with a shaved head and one of those old-school backpacks, green canvas-style material attached between two poles and he was about to wander off into this jungle, armed only with a machete. He had a blank look in his eyes as if he knew he wouldn't be coming out.
If you could work with any author, who would it be and why?
I have no idea. I find writing a very solitary experience.
What is your favourite song lyric?
Purity Ring- Fine shrine: "Cut open my sternum and pull my little ribs around you."
What are you working on at the moment?
A nice bottle of Shiraz and my second novel, a horror story based on an isolated island in the Pacific.
Tell us about your latest work and how we can find out more.
'The Misadventures of a Reluctant Traveller' is available around the world on various sites for the soft and hard cover books and I recommend Kobo for a cheap ebook version.
Also, of course, you can check it out on Goodreads, where my fellow authors and readers roam freely, like free-range chickens.
