By day I'm a video game consultant, and I also volunteer at the German Shepherd Dog Welfare Fund - the charity that rescued the dog I adopted last year. I've also recently started compiling a website covering the history of the village I live, although I'm hoping to draw in some help for that project! Here is scratchpad when I need it, and a place for my personal projects. It's also an archive from back when this was was my writing blog.

Elite: Dangerous The Official Novel
Back in the mid 80's Elite was the game that got me into gaming in a serious way. Being able to fly between the stars battling pirates and trading goods turned what had been an occasional pastime into a hobby (and profession, in fact I work at Frontier) that has lasted over 25 years.
And now a new version of the game will hopefully be made (assuming the funding can be put together). There is a Kickstarter project to help fund the game. You can check it out here:

Alongside the game an official novel will be released and I will be writing the novel in cnjunction with the game's creator David Braben. I can't describe how excited I am!
There are also writer's pack pledges for others to get involved in creating the fiction for this wonderful universe.
So I can on anyone interested to pledge their support and let's see this game come together.

Wow. This must definitely be an amazing time for you, to get to work on the fiction for a game that helped start it all for you. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am pretty pleased :-)
DeleteHappy for you and also extremely jealous (Which is why I am trying to crowd source myself for one of those 'Writer Packs' - http://www.indiegogo.com/EliteDangerous-And-here-the-wheel/x/1801378?c=home). I look forward to reading your story when it comes out. (I have already pledged to receive game and story when it ships)
ReplyDeleteLets get Elite:Dangerous across the line and relive our childhoods!
Good luck with your funding, I'm really looking forward to seeing what people write. One of the great things about the Elite universe is how diverse it is.
DeleteHi Michael.
DeleteThere are another three novels funded or being funded and they are all by fans doing it for the passion so I'm sure they will be great.
As discussed on the E:D Kickstarter, I'd love to do a guest author spotlight with you. Email is john_melinda@xtra.co.nz or you can find me on my facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/AndHereTheWheel?skip_nax_wizard=true

ReplyDeleteGood luck with the sequel - Do you have a title yet?
Hi Drew - good to see you. I'll email you shortly. I don't have a title yet. I do have a loose idea for the story, although I can't really say much about it yet.
DeleteMy main focus for now is compiling the fiction for the universe.
If my crowdfunding project launch ever sees the light of day (tomorrow, fingers crossed) there will be yet another Writer's Pledge novel underway. Feel free to contact me : pixeldude@gmail.com
